CROTON POINT'S RV PARK
Once again, I've returned to the only campground in Westchester County; the 508 acre tract on the peninsula in Croton and only 10 miles from my home. Not much is advertised regarding the RV aspect of the park but it remains a popular spot for motor homes. Currently, it seems that the majority of sites are occupied by long-term site holders that can be identified by the large propane tanks on site. The County has rented these year-round sites to workers that are or were involved with the construction (of the new) and demolition of the old Tappan Zee Bridge and the natural gas pipeline (Pipeliners) that goes through Rockland County, crosses the Hudson River and enters Westchester County near the Indian Point nuclear facility and then continues through Putnam into Connecticut and through New England. My site 37 is more toward the westerly area of the campground where transient RVers enjoy the natural settings. My RV group, the Hudson Islanders, have held many rallies here and it was by attending one of them that I decided to become a part of it. Shady and quiet with full hookups (but no Wi-Fi), the convenience of being near home gives me the best of both worlds. I rely on my gracious neighbors who taxi me to and from the park so that I am able to have my Caddy with me for my frequent trips to either Fishkill (Sundays and Thursday to visit my 99-year old mother living with my sister) or Hastings (Mondays and Wednesdays for sushi).

For me? I am in my 17th year of retirement and regret only that I did not start RVing sooner. |

A highly recommended gift for yourself or someone nearing retirement. Available at Coastal Tide Clocks |

My two-week stay here will be with mixed emotions. Whereas attending a rally or any get-together with a group such as the Hudson Islanders that brings a wealth of camaraderie, photo ops, good conversation, tips and learning experiences, camping alone allows one to take on a different mindset. These two weeks will feature the enjoyment of the surroundings coupled with peace and quiet...if one needs such pleasures. So far, torrential rains, flash flood watches and heat indicies in the 90's are my passport to peace and quiet here at CPP. Fellow RVers Vicki and George, who have been here since early June will be off to the Niagara Falls area while friends Craig and Trish, (RVers from Florida) will be in and out during their stay. Ray and Kathy spending time in Rochester, NY will be part of the next Hudson Islanders get-together come August 18th. I am hoping friends who haven't seen Winnie II and who live locally will get the opportunity to come and visit for awhile. We shall see.

Coincidentally, Craig & Trish are set up on site #35 right next door. How nice is that? |
I am going to try and extend my RV season into October as I did back in 2014. I've already updated my "Summer 2018" itinerary" and "My Visitors" pages. Take a look. You can check it out by clicking on the tabs on the upper right side of this post. This time, however, I'll scour the RV friends I've made to see if any have similar ideas and I'll go from there.
Saturday also marked the 15th year daughter, Marybeth, participated in the annual "Goals For Hope" soccer tournament held in Poughkeepsie. Along with granddaughter, Beca, (her 5th year) the rain-delayed tournament was another success.

I decided to keep this post short and write other as events and or photos present themselves. Stay tuned.
Love the mother-daughter 15 years with the soccer tournament.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kathy. Yes, I couldn't be more proud of them...just as you are with those two grandsons soccer "nuts" that you enjoy so much.
DeleteSounds like you've got the bug for some fall camping. Maybe some Hudson Islanders would like to go too! Roberta
ReplyDeleteYup, that's what I'm a-thinkin'. We'll see what other reactions I get. I'll probably post something in the near future while I'm here at CPP.
ReplyDeleteThanks
